The United States government has clarified that the Diversity Visa (DV) 2027 Green Card Lottery registration period has not yet opened, following widespread misinformation online claiming that the process was already underway.
In a statement, the U.S. government emphasized that any reports suggesting the DV-2027 entry registration is open are false. It also warned applicants to be cautious of individuals and websites that falsely claim they can improve one’s chances of being selected.
“The Diversity Visa (DV) 2027 entry registration period is not open at this time. We are aware of reports of fraudulent claims that the DV-2027 entry is open and of individuals and services falsely claiming they can increase your chances of selection. This is not true,” the statement read.
The government noted that the Department of State (DOS) will officially announce the DV-2027 registration dates and any updates regarding changes to the application process once they are finalized.
This clarification comes shortly after the U.S. introduced a new $1 (approximately Ksh130) electronic registration fee for Green Card Lottery applicants. The fee will apply during the new registration period when it officially opens.
This marks the first time in the program’s history that applicants will be required to pay a fee to submit their entries. The Department of State explained that the new policy aims to distribute administrative costs more fairly among all participants rather than burdening only those selected for further visa processing.
In addition to the new fee, selected applicants will still be required to pay the $330 (Ksh42,619) interview application fee. The DOS confirmed that registration fees will be non-refundable and non-transferable regardless of the outcome of the lottery.
The U.S. government urged potential applicants to follow official updates from the Department of State to avoid falling victim to online scams.
